I know there's a handfull of guys on here like Airbrushjohn and others that ride 08-09 gixxers so I figured I would pass this on. There's a recall on them:

What I find interesting about the recall is that it's for a rectifier issue and lots of people with 06-07 gixxers have said that the rectifiers get way to hot and are in a bad location for those years. The riders on gixxer.com were trying to get suzuki to issue a recall for those years but they refused. Now they do it on the 08-09. figures.

No company willingly issues recalls, they only do it when they have too...So a certain number of documented failures has to happen before they will be forced to do anything about it. There is a percentage that has to be hit out of all the bikes made for it to happen..And that means people have to take their bikes to the dealers, fixing it at home or a small shop will not add to the list of affected bikes...

and its cheaper for them not to. even if they get sued cause one of these things catches fire and burns a garage down. its still cheaper to pay out 1 mil vs a recall that cost them 10 mil

no different than the 03-06 gix 1ks having a ton of clutch chattering issues. they fixed it for 07 i guess but never even offered a recall and barely anyone got the fix covered under warranty, the clutch binds like crazy from the springs grabbing the side of the pressure plate could easily cause you to drop your bike or hesitate when you go to pull out and end up in traffic or some shit.
