I have a wire feed MIG welder... can I use it to weld stainless?
I want to patch up/repair the end cap on my exhaust to see if I can't get one last session out of it over the weekend.
do I need any special wire/filler for welding stainless?
last time I tried to fix this pipe I used a buddies TIG welder and he forgot to tell me to turn the voltage down after he was done welding a roll cage into a race car... so I swiss cheesed the end cap a bit but it still held up almost all summer.

technically yes you should use a different gas and wire but for just a quick repair you can use what you already have just make sure you get good penetration ..

are you positive what you are welding is ss not titanium ?

absolutely. it's an old Erion pipe... I think it was made before weight weenies got all obsessed with Ti.

you can weld ss with mild steel wire it's just not gonna be as strong and the weld will rust , i wouldnt recommend it for any thing structural but for an exhaust tip it will be fine

right on! its the opposite side of the tip though. the flange that connects to the mid-pipe. still strong enough to hold in that spot?

if you get good penetration with out burning through ...it's a fine line on this material

hahah! yeah, I know it burns through real easy already. well the pipe can't really get much more broken than it is... I'll give it a go tonight or tomorrow and see what happens. thanks mang!

Stitch weld it, no continuous beads. its easy to do.
