The basics are a good LCD VF or monitor to focus with and a support system i.e. shoulder mount or tripod. That's all you really need to get started. This is the VF and pod I use.

Believe it or not that's about as cheap as its gonna get for either of those (things change daily so I could be wrong already)

i'm a squid at video/photo stuff.
i know i need a decent tripod to make good footage.
but what is the exact reason of the viewfinder?
is it better to focus manually???
because i already find out that it is not a good idea to autofocus while filming
with the 550d.

Yeah the autofocus is horseshit for video. The LCD VF is for better focus. It's hard to get good focus with just the screen, but a lot easier with the lcdvf, also known as a loupe.

Ha yeah definitely! But way more expensive than the loupe! If you are on Twitter too and wanna learn about cameras, Follow me @LTdslr and follow a bunch of the people I follow. They're always posting up about what's goin on in the industry. Lots of good knowledge there.

This is the one I use. You'll to spend at least this much to get a decent fluid head tripod. I just picked it up a couple weeks ago and I've used it a few times. It works really good!
